| | The ANSI standard for wrist rests suggests that the wrist should be at an angle of 0 to 15. Zero degrees has proven to be the healthiest because it permits the wrist to rest in a neutral position, taking pressure off the nerve that causes carpal tunnel injuries. The standards are going to be upgraded to the same standards that are applied to chairs. This means that the devices must not create extra heat or moisture for the user. The reason for this is that injuries to the wrist while using the keyboard involve inflammation and any extra heat or moisture can aggravate the condition. By providing a wrist rest that absorbs moisture and is designed with materials that dissipate heat, you avoid adding to a worker's injuries and can actually prevent injuries. I suggest that you verify the height of the wrist rest you are going to be using. The height of 1 3/4" when used for a standards PC type keyboard may cause the user's wrist to slant down in a flexion position placing extra press on the hand and wrist. I also suggest you examine how easy it is for the user to get to the space bar and other function keys on the bottom row of the keyboard. We do manufacture a wrist rest that is of that height and it is normally used for typewriters, telecommunication equipment and old mainframe type keyboards.Kare Products has designed orthopedic products for hospitals and doctors for twenty years.
